The character
Hermann Panzer (1855 – 1923)
A pioneer in the hotel industry and manager of the Grand Hotel Trento, the German Panzer arrived in San Martino di Castrozza in the late 19th century to renovate and expand the Albergo Alpino, renaming it Hotel Dolomiti. At the heart of the small Alpine location, the structure became more and more important: after several additional expansions, the Hotel was burned down by the Austrians in 1915, and immediately rebuilt by the Panzer family which, in the 1930s, devoted itself with great foresight to building the first sled lift on Alpe Tognola, paving the way for winter tourism in San Martino.
