The character
Renzo Debertolis (1937 – 2007)
An Alpine guide since 1965 and group leader of the Aquile di San Martino Alpine Guides in 1970, Trapano, nicknamed Renzo, was a true figurehead for the town of San Martino, as a mountain man and as an administrator, and is still remembered with great affection among the townspeople. Between the 1960s and 1970s, he paved about 15 routes on the Pale di San Martino, from Campanile Gilli to Cima dei Cantoni, from the first winter ascent on the Leuchs route of the west face of Cimon della Pala, to the new west route Cima Madonna 1967, as well as several winter firsts on Cimon della Pala. This passion led him to broaden his horizons beyond the Alps, as he organized the first Trentino expedition to Dhaulagiri, the third Italian expedition of an eight-thousander.
